Born in Munich, Germany, Moritz Amelung was trained as a cabinet maker at high end joinery Andreas Küper where he gained expertise in furniture manufacturing and design. He worked in close collaboration with designers Konstantin Grcic and Nitzan Cohen building installations for exhibitions in “Haus der Kunst”, Munich. He also built and installed the Swarovski fair booth in co-operation with K. Grcic and Abet at Triennale during Milan Furniture Fair 2010.

After finishing his extra-occupational design studies in Munich, Moritz studied product design at BIAD Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, UK. Due to his innovative final project “dk 01 shelving unit” he got his Master of arts degree being top of his course and graduated with distinction.

Moritz is now based in Berlin combining his knowledge in craft and design to work with different materials, specialising on the physical execution of design through mock-ups and prototyping. Although he is working in different fields of design his biggest passion is furniture and always will be.
